The Southeast is ruled by the Trigram Xun ('the Gentle'), which represents the changeable and penetrating nature of Wind. It is one of the I-Ching's organic pairs of opposites; the other being Thunder (Chen). In Nature, Xun is the principle of constant movement — not the bursting forth of Thunder, but the more gentle movement inherent in organic growth, which reaches its peak in Early Summer. In human nature, it is symbolic of our ability to respond to and assimilate stimuli — and in ways that contribute to our emotional fulfillment and inner development.
